Anti-smog operations intensified

FAISALABAD, Nov 03 (APP): In line with the Punjab government’s directives, a comprehensive anti-smog campaign is underway to tackle rising air pollution across the district. The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) has deployed teams for continuous monitoring and inspections of industrial units, brick kilns, and agricultural practices to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Deputy Director of EPD, Usman Azhar, reported that various industrial units are being closely monitored. Several boilers in industrial facilities have already been sealed for using substandard fuels, and multiple brick kilns operating without the required zigzag technology have been demolished. This technology is crucial for reducing emissions from brick kilns, a significant contributor to smog.
In addition to the industrial and brick kiln inspections, teams from the agriculture extension department are actively targeting crop residue burning in rural areas. Legal actions have been initiated against individuals found guilty of burning crop stubble, which is a major cause of air pollution during the smog season.
Furthermore, the EPD is also taking stringent actions against owners and drivers of vehicles emitting excessive smoke. Fines and legal measures are being imposed on violators to reduce vehicle-related air pollution, which further exacerbates the region’s smog problem.
These combined efforts are part of the Punjab government’s larger strategy to combat the ongoing smog crisis and improve air quality across the province.
