KARACHI, Dec 24 (APP): Sindh Madressatul Islam University, in collaboration with the Press Information Department (PID) and Pakistan Television (PTV), celebrated the 149th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan and an illustrious alumnus of Sindh Madressatul Islam (SMI), with great spirit and admiration on Wednesday at the Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium of the university.
Addressing the ceremony as the chief guest, Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, Vice Chancellor of Sindh Madressatul Islam University, said that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s life is a great source of inspiration for every citizen of the country, especially for youth, because he lived a life with great principles of honesty, dedication, and commitment. Also, he upheld moral values and became a symbol of virtues, character, conversation, and thoughts in his entire life.
Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai said many writers have explored Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s political career, statesmanship, and personal life, but few have examined his early education. He urged researchers and scholars to delve deeper into this aspect of Jinnah’s life.
“There is a need to do comprehensive research work on the education of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah he received in his life, because no one has done such work in detail so far,” Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai said and advised that SMIU’s students, faculty, and historians of the country should write a comprehensive book on Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s education life, which he received from different institutions including Sindh Madressatul Islam, Anjuman-e-Islam School, Bombay, Church Mission School, Karachi, and Lincoln’s Inn, London. Also, the school may have explored from where he had received education in Gujrati before getting admission in SMI. SMIU shall support the researcher in this respect.
Tracing the history of Quaid’s education at SMIU vice chancellor said that he had received his education from SMI for four and a half years. During that period, he studied at SMI’s rented building, located in the area of Bolton Market, for more than two years. After construction of the present Main Building of SMI in 1890, he studied over here for two years, till 30th January 1892. He said that the Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had remembered each and every inch of SMI and he expressed such sentiments when he had inaugurated SM College at SMI in 1943.
On this occasion an abridged drama of PTV “Jinnah Se Quaid” was screened, which narrated the life and struggle of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
The Director-General of Press Information Department Ms. Iram Tanveer, thanked the SMIU for screening a drama on the Quaid and praised the initiative, noting that it was part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Planning and Development to create high-quality content about Pakistan’s founders. She also mentioned that the Government of Pakistan has declared 2026 as the “Year of Quaid-e-Azam” to commemorate his 150th birth anniversary.
Ali Asghar Arbab, the news editor and PR manager at PTV Karachi, said that PTV produced this drama with a lot of hard work on the story related to the history and facts about Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. He thanked SMIU for giving them the honor of showcasing the historic PTV drama, originally aired in the 1990s, in memory of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said that the play was presented to ensure that the younger generation could learn about the life of Pakistan’s founder and draw inspiration from his journey.
Saima Siddiqui, an official from the Quaid-e-Azam House Museum, shared a documentary about the museum in the form of a video. Students from the Literary Society also participated in the event, expressing their love and admiration for Quaid-e-Azam through speeches and songs, commemorating the life and legacy of Pakistan’s founder. The event concluded with the presentation of shields to the guests as a token of appreciation, which were handed over by the vice chancellor of SMIU.
