LAHORE, Nov 06 (APP):In response to growing air pollution concerns, Lahore’s authorities and environmental experts were intensifying efforts to safeguard public health and improve air quality across the city. Public awareness campaigns, precautionary measures, and monitoring activities were being strengthened as part of a collective drive to combat smog during the winter season.
According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), Lahore currently ranks fifth among the most polluted cities globally with 176 AQI, particulate matter (PM2.5) levels reaching 181 µg/m³.
Several areas reported alarming readings, including 228 on Barki Road, 227 in Allama Iqbal Town, and over 200 in Gulberg, Civil Secretariat, DHA Phase 5, and Bedian Road.
The Meteorological Department reported temperatures between 13°C and 26°C, with 64% humidity and wind speeds of 8 km/h — conditions that contribute to the persistence of smog.
Environmental experts urged citizens to wear masks outdoors, limit unnecessary travel, and follow precautionary measures, especially to protect students during the smog season. Meanwhile, officials noted that the lack of enforcement at night and emissions from heavy traffic have further aggravated the city’s air quality.
