Dera Ismail Khan , Aug 28 (APP):The Senate of Agriculture University Dera Ismail Khan has unanimously approved an Rs 844 million budget for the financial year 2025-26.
A spokesman of the university said on Thursday that the approval came during a meeting held at the Civil Secretariat, Peshawar, under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Agriculture and Pro-Chancellor of the university, Major (R) Sajad Barkwal.
The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture Muhammad Naeem Khan, Special Secretary Agriculture Syed Sohail Ahmad, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shakeeb Ullah, Registrar Zeb-ul-Qamar, Director Finance of the Higher Education Commission Islamabad, and representatives of the Finance, Law, Higher Education, and Establishment Departments, besides Senate members.
The spokesman said the Senate reviewed in detail the university’s budget estimates, last year’s income and expenditures, the annual work plan, performance report, and ongoing development projects. It was informed that the university’s expenditures during the last financial year stood at Rs 760 million, while transparency and effective utilization of funds in the new fiscal year would be ensured.
He said the Senate, while approving the budget, directed expediting the pace of ongoing development projects. The Senate also examined the annual performance report and third-party audit report, terming the university’s future initiatives encouraging.
Quoting the Agriculture Minister and Pro-Chancellor, the spokesman said agriculture is the backbone of the national economy and the provincial government gives high priority to research and innovation in the sector. He said the Agriculture University DI Khan is playing a vital role in promoting modern agricultural education and research in the southern districts.
The spokesman added that the minister expressed his commitment that transparent utilization of the budget would directly benefit students, research projects, and farmers, while the government would further strengthen the role of the university in creating new agricultural opportunities and equipping farmers with modern technology in the southern region of the province.
