Advocacy seminar to beat measles and rubella, held in Mirpurkhas

MIRPURKHAS, Nov 6 (APP): The Assistant Commissioner of Sindhri, Afraz Saeed, has urged citizens to play their part in making the national vaccination campaign a success. Speaking at an advocacy seminar on Thursday, Saeed emphasized the importance of protecting children from epidemic diseases like measles and rubella.
The campaign, scheduled from November 17 to 29, aims to vaccinate 247,022 children aged six months to five years against measles-rubella, and 386,032 children aged birth to five years against polio. District Health Officer Dr. Sandeep Kumar highlighted the dangers of measles, a virus that spreads through coughing and sneezing.
In 2023, measles claimed over 10,000 lives worldwide, with Pakistan reporting over 12,000 cases in the last six months. The seminar attendees, including officials and social workers, assured their support to make the campaign a success.
A total of 148 outreach teams, 41 fixed teams, 14 mobile teams, and hundreds of social mobilizers and supervisors have been appointed to achieve the vaccination targets.
