LAHORE, Nov 09 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in her special message on the birth anniversary of the Poet of the East, Allama Muhammad Iqbal (RA), said that the government and people of Punjab salute Iqbal’s intellectual greatness and timeless vision.
She described Allama Iqbal as a poet, reformer, and mentor who awakened the Muslims of the Subcontinent with a strong sense of identity and freedom. The chief minister noted that Iqbal provided the ideological foundation for the Muslim community, which Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah later translated into the creation of a separate homeland. She added that Iqbal’s message for the youth — especially his emphasis on self-reliance — remains central to Pakistan’s progress and development.
Maryam Nawaz said that adopting Iqbal’s philosophy of self-reliance is the most meaningful way to honour him and a pathway for Pakistan to evolve into a moderate, welfare-oriented, and prosperous state. She added that Iqbal’s teachings on self-discipline, moral strength, fairness, frankness, and democracy embody the universal and enduring principles of Islam.
The chief minister underscored the urgent need to understand and implement Iqbal’s vision to establish a free, fair, and just socio-economic system. She said that only by truly embracing his philosophy can Pakistan attain a prominent place politically, economically, religiously, and socially among the comity of nations.
Maryam Nawaz concluded by calling on the nation to reaffirm its resolve to draw inspiration from Iqbal’s thoughts and make his philosophy a guiding light for a stronger, more prosperous future.
