Acid attack accused awarded life imprisonment, ordered to pay Rs 17.7m fine

BUREWALA, Dec 24 (APP): Additional District and Sessions Judge Syed Muhammad Omar sentenced an accused to life imprisonment and ordered him to pay Rs 17.7 million as fine and compensation after charges of attacking and injuring a female school teacher with acid were proved against him.
According to deputy district public prosecutor Muhammad Nadeem Iqbal, accused Muhammad Ashfaq, who had attacked the private school teacher Ghulam Sabiraan after she had rejected his marriage proposal, was also sentenced to 11-year imprisonment.
Acid attack is heinous offense and those involved deserve no leniency, DPO Vehari Tasawur Iqbal said in a statement.
He commended police investigators for effective investigations with evidence that culminated into conviction of the accused.
