MULTAN, Dec 24 (APP):An accused in a child sexual assault case was arrested after being injured during an exchange of fire with police near Basti Border, within the jurisdiction of Makhdoom Rasheed Police Station.
According to police sources, a police party was on routine patrol when they signaled two suspicious individuals riding a motorcycle to stop. Instead of complying, the suspects opened fire on the police in an attempt to flee.
Police retaliated in self-defense. During the exchange, one of the accused was injured by gunfire from his own accomplice and was subsequently arrested. He was identified as Shah Zaman, son of Ghulam Hussain, who was wanted by police in case No. 2493/25 related to child sexual assault.
A search operation was underway to apprehend the fleeing accomplice, while further investigation into the incident was in progress, police sources added.
