KARACHI, Jul 08 (APP):The 9th death anniversary of renowned humanitarian and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi was observed on Tuesday at the Edhi Foundation headquarters in the Mithadar area of Karachi.
A Quran Khwani and Fateha were held to honor the legacy of Edhi, attended by Faisal Edhi — son of the late humanitarian and current head of the Edhi Foundation — along with his wife, sister, hundreds of foundation workers, employees, and admirers.
Participants paid rich tribute to Edhi’s lifelong commitment to serving humanity, recalling his pioneering efforts in establishing Pakistan’s largest welfare network.
Born on February 28, 1928, in Gujarat, British India, Edhi began his welfare services in Pakistan in 1951. Over the decades, he established the world’s largest volunteer ambulance service, along with numerous shelters for the homeless, orphanages, and animal care centers across the country.
His humanitarian work earned him several prestigious national and international awards, including the Asian Nobel, Lenin Peace Prize, and Pakistan’s highest civilian honor, Nishan-e-Imtiaz.
The Edhi Foundation has also extended its relief services beyond Pakistan, providing aid in countries such as Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iran, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Croatia, Indonesia, and the United States.
Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away on July 8, 2016, in Karachi at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of selfless service and compassion.
