ISLAMABAD, Oct 15 (APP):The ongoing anti-polio campaign in Islamabad has entered its third day, with health teams successfully administering oral polio vaccines to 94,141 children upto the age of five years during the first two days of the drive.
The district administration reported steady progress as teams continued field operations across urban and rural areas.
In this regard, a review meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (East) Farhan Ahmed assessed the performance of field teams on the second day of the campaign. Officials briefed that vaccination coverage targets were being met and coordination among field teams, supervisors, and monitors remained effective.
During the second day alone, 94,141 children received polio drops, while 206 refusal cases were resolved on the spot through counselling and follow-up by health workers. The administration said the response from parents was improving as awareness efforts continued across communities.
Over 20 field monitors were deployed in different tehsils and union councils to ensure smooth execution of the drive. They observed vaccination activities, addressed logistical issues, and guided workers in reaching every household. Officials noted that the monitoring teams played an important role in identifying and resolving refusal cases promptly.
ADC East Farhan Ahmed directed the health department to maintain a close follow-up on unresolved cases and ensure every eligible child in the district receives the vaccine. He stressed that swift action on refusal cases and accurate field reporting were essential for the success of the campaign.
He further stated that the safety of polio teams remained the top priority of the administration. Security personnel are accompanying workers in sensitive areas to facilitate door-to-door operations without interruptions.
“The best results can only be achieved through teamwork and community participation,” Farhan Ahmed said, appreciating the efforts of vaccination teams, supervisors, and support staff.
The administration highlighted that cooperation from parents and local communities is key to eliminating the poliovirus from the capital. Citizens have been urged to ensure that every child under five years of age receives the drops during the campaign.
Public awareness activities are also being conducted alongside the vaccination drive, including door-to-door visits, mosque announcements, and social media messages to encourage participation.
The district administration reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating polio from Islamabad, stating that collective responsibility and consistent efforts are the path to success.
“Islamabad will soon be declared a polio-free city with continued public cooperation and active teamwork,” ADC East Farhan Ahmed added.
The polio campaign will continue in the federal capital, with health teams set to cover all remaining areas as the third day of the drive progresses.
