SARGODHGA, Jan 26 (APP):Police on Monday intensified their crackdown against kite sellers,makers and flyers,recovering more than 900 kites and strings during raids conducted over the past 24 hours.
According to a police spokesperson,factory area police seized 520 kites from Umar Farooq,while Midh Ranjha police recovered 300 kites from Rafaqat.Kirana police confiscated 51 kites and urban area and Jhal Chakian police arrested three individuals for flying kites.
Cases have been registered against the accused under the Kite Flying Act, and further legal action is underway.
The Punjab government has imposed strict penalties under the Kite Flying Act.
Those involved in manufacturing or flying kites face five to seven years’ imprisonment and fines of up to Rs 5 million,while kite flyers may be sentenced to three to five years in prison along with fines of up to Rs 2 million.
For juveniles,first-time offenders will be fined Rs.50,000,second-time offenders Rs.100,000 and repeat violations will be dealt with under the Juvenile Justice System Act 2018,which may include imprisonment.
Police have urged citizens to refrain from kite flying,terming it a dangerous activity and advised parents to prevent children from engaging in the practice.
