LAHORE, Nov 09 (APP): A large-scale operation is underway in Lahore to combat smog and environmental pollution, with authorities taking strict action against vehicles contributing to the city’s deteriorating air quality.
According to sources from the Transport and Mass Transit Department, the operation is being carried out around the clock. A report on the first week of November reveals significant action against violators. From November 1 to 8, traffic police inspected 4,184 vehicles, issuing challans for 877 vehicles lacking fitness certificates or emitting smog.
Additionally, 288 vehicles were stopped, and fines were imposed on 671 overloaded goods vehicles, resulting in a total penalty of Rs 8 million. The operation has also led to the registration of 255 FIRs for anti-smog violations, with 208 drivers arrested.
The crackdown highlights the ongoing efforts to reduce pollution and improve air quality in the provincial capital.
