LAHORE, Jun 20 (APP): An eight member committee has been formed to appoint new chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) on merit through a competitive and transparent process, deciding not to extend the tenure of the current chairperson.
Higher Education Commission (HEC) local chapter sources told APP that the extension given to the current chairperson has already been challenged in the court of law. According to the HEC Act, the chairman can be extended only once.
According to the sources, the 8-member search committee will be headed by the Federal Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training. The committee will be responsible for shortlisting suitable candidates for the post of chairman HEC and making recommendations, so as to ensure effective leadership and better governance in the higher education sector.
Federal Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui will be the chairman of the committee, while the members include Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar, Arif Saeed, Salman Akhtar, Secretary Apex Committee Jahanzeb Khan, Provost, Aga Khan University Dr. Anjum Hilai, Provost, Aga Khan University Dr. Muhammad Naseem Qaisrani, Secretary Federal Education and Professional Training Nadeem Mehboob as members/secretaries of the committee.
