ISLAMABAD, Jan 14 (APP):The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration conducted operation on GT Road green belt and removed construction material sale points set up on the green belt and cleared encroachments that were blocking public movement while eight people were taken into custody.
An assistant commissioner carried out action after receiving reports that construction material was being sold illegally at several spots.
According to officials, these sale points were established by placing sand, gravel, bricks, and other material on public land, causing obstruction for pedestrians and traffic.
During the operation, the administration found that the green belt, meant for public use and road safety, had been occupied without permission. Temporary setups were created to sell construction material, which reduced road space and made it difficult for citizens to pass through the area safely. Authorities said that repeated warnings had been ignored, leading to strict action.
The assistant commissioner ordered the removal of the illegal setups and directed staff to clear the encroachments immediately. As the operation continued, eight individuals involved in setting up and running these sale points were detained and shifted to the local police station for further legal action.
Officials stated that the action was taken under existing laws that prohibit the occupation of public land and obstruction of roads. They said that no individual or business is allowed to use green belts or footpaths for commercial activities. Such practices, they added, not only violate regulations but also create problems for daily commuters.
The district administration said that similar operations would continue in other parts of the city. Officials warned that anyone found occupying public land, setting up illegal sale points, or blocking roads would face action without prior notice. They urged traders and vendors to conduct business only at approved locations.
The administration also appealed to citizens to report encroachments and obstructions so that timely action could be taken. Authorities stressed that keeping roads, footpaths, and green belts clear is necessary to ensure smooth movement and public safety.
At the end of the operation, the green belt was cleared, and traffic movement on GT Road improved. Officials confirmed that cases would be processed against the detained individuals according to law.
