ISLAMABAD, Nov 20 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police on Thursday made a major breakthrough in vehicle-theft investigations, with 64 suspects arrested and 112 stolen vehicles worth over Rs250 million recovered. The announcement was made during a detailed press conference held at Police Lines Headquarters by SSP Investigation Muhammad Usman Tariq Butt,
SSP Investigation said that the Anti-Car and Motorcycle Theft Unit carried out extensive operations in 2025, dismantling 18 organised gangs and arresting 40 gang members along with receivers involved in vehicle lifting and snatching.
A total of 112 vehicles and 32 motorcycles were recovered and will be returned to their original owners.
An official later told APP that Safe City Islamabad’s advanced cameras, technical tools, and human intelligence played a key role in identifying unknown culprits, tracing routes, and linking suspects to multiple theft incidents across different sectors.
He added that ICT Police pursued these gangs across Islamabad, KP, Punjab, Azad Kashmir, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan, resulting in major arrests and recoveries. The aggressive strategy led to a clear decrease in vehicle-theft cases in 2025 compared with 2024.
The official said that the arrested suspects were involved in stealing both new and old model vehicles, operating through organised networks targeting residential and commercial areas.
During the press conference, SSP Investigation stated that the Anti-Theft Unit worked day and night, using modern surveillance and coordination with provincial police to recover vehicles worth millions of rupees.
At the end of the briefing, SSP Usman Tariq Butt handed over the recovered vehicle and motorcycle keys to the rightful owners, who lauded the professionalism of ICT Police and thanked the teams for retrieving their property.
The SSP reaffirmed that ICT Police will continue its crackdown without discrimination, adding that protecting citizens’ property and dismantling organised criminal networks remains a top priority.
