52 vehicles impounded for fake plates

LAHORE, Apr 08 (APP):The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) detected and took action against 52 vehicles with fake or tampered number plates in the past week, as part of an intensified zero-tolerance crackdown.
A PSCA spokesman said on Wednesday that the operation is being carried out through PSCA’s advanced AI-based surveillance camera system. Suspicious number plates are immediately flagged by the cameras, generating automated alerts. Virtual patrolling officers respond promptly, inform the nearest police units in real time and assist in tracing and apprehending the vehicles.
The spokesman clarified that tampering with number plates is punishable under Section 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Motor Vehicle Ordinance, with FIRs registered against offenders. Altering number plates to avoid e-challan is a serious legal violation and may lead to criminal prosecution.
Citizens were warned that strict enforcement will continue, with modern technology being leveraged to ensure traffic law compliance and safeguard life and property across Punjab.
