LAHORE, Jun 22 (APP): The Punjab government has decided that 5,180 water filtration plants across the province would be outsourced and their samples will be checked through laboratory tests.
Chief Executive Officer Punjab Saaf Paani Authority Syed Zahid Aziz, while talking to APP, said that initially 1,800 filtration plants would be outsourced to ensure provision of water to people according to the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He said the water filtration plants’ samples would be checked through lab tests as experts say that contaminated water was a major contributor to disease, with some studies indicating that it was responsible for around 60 per cent of diseases.
He said in developing countries, specifically waterborne diseases like diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, hepatitis, and typhoid are often linked to the consumption of unsafe water. He said according to the vision of the the chief minister, “Every drop of water is precious, public awareness should be raised to prevent its wastage in daily life.”
