LAHORE, Sep 08 (APP): The Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) plans to complete 46 kilometers of embankments on both sides of the river within three years, aiming to protect surrounding areas from future flooding.
These remarks were made by River Training Works Project Incharge Rao Intizar Ali during a media briefing on Monday. He highlighted that embankments built on seven kilometers of riverbank successfully saved dozens of villages in Sapphire Bay (Aya Nagar) from floodwaters. Following the devastating floods in the Ravi River, construction on the embankments has accelerated under the clear instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Rao Intizar Ali detailed that 30-foot-wide embankments will be constructed on both sides of the 46-kilometer stretch, including the development of a one-kilometer riverbed. The Punjab government is fully supporting RUDA in removing encroachments along the river.
Addressing delays in the project, Rao Intizar Ali explained that construction was postponed partly due to the need for legal reviews and approvals from various departments for different sections of the PC-1. However, with directives from the Chief Minister requiring all departments to coordinate closely with RUDA, work is expected to accelerate significantly.
He expressed confidence that the embankments would be completed within the stipulated timeframe, ensuring flood safety for Lahore and surrounding areas for generations to come.
