400 mini-dams to be constructed in Potohar region; Raja Hanif

RAWALPINDI, Oct 06 (APP):As many as 400 mini-dams would be constructed at a 70 per cent subsidy in three years under the Punjab Chief Minister’s Agricultural Transformation Plan for the Potohar region, said Chairman of the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team Raja Muhammad Hanif Advocate on Monday.
Addressing a draw ceremony for the allotment of mini-dams among the farmers of Rawalpindi district, he said that 100 mini-dams will be constructed in Rawalpindi division in the first year of the program, while 150 each would be established in the second and third years, respectively.
The construction of mini-dams will ensure water conservation and increase water resources in the Potohar region, he said and added that farmers will be able to irrigate their crops, gardens and vegetables, which will not only improve their productivity but will also enable them to play their role in the development of the country.
On the occasion, 25 lucky farmers were selected in the draw out of a total of 42 applications, of which 12 farmers belonged to Tehsil Rawalpindi, 10 from Gujar Khan and 3 from Kahuta.
Earlier, the Chief Minister of Punjab provided interest-free loans and green tractors on subsidy to the farmers for the purchase of agricultural inputs through the Kisan Card.
Member Provincial Assembly from Gujar Khan, Raja Shaukat Ali Bhatti, Additional Director General Soil Conservation Dr Pervaiz Sikandar, Director Agriculture Extension Rawalpindi Division Syed Shahid Iftikhar Bukhari, Assistant Commissioner Rawalpindi, Director Soil Conservation Atiqur Rehman and Deputy Director Agriculture Extension Sadia Bano, besides other officers of the Agriculture Department and landowners, were also present.
