LODHRAN, Jul 25 (APP):The Civil Defence Department Lodhran conducted 53 mock drills and organised 69 fire safety programmes, comprising a total of 320 training sessions aimed at enhancing emergency preparedness in commercial institutions.
These achievements were part of the department’s annual performance report for FY 2024–25, which outlined key successes in enforcement, public safety, and awareness initiatives.
According to Civil Defence Officer Tahir Abbas Bhutta, over Rs1.1 million in fines were imposed during district-wide price control inspections targeting businesses found violating consumer protection laws. The fire safety sessions focused on basic firefighting techniques and emergency response training, equipping business staff with essential life-saving skills.
Following the directives of Deputy Commissioner and Controller Civil Defence Dr Lubna Nazir, special emphasis was placed on educational outreach. A total of 3,965 students in schools, colleges, and universities were trained in fire safety, evacuation drills, and first response protocols.
The department also carried out routine inspections of commercial and industrial units. Notices were issued to establishments lacking fire safety arrangements, while challans and court referrals were made in cases of serious non-compliance, resulting in strict penalties.
In a determined move against unlawful fuel trade, the enforcement squad launched a crackdown on 121 illegal petrol agencies, registering FIRs, sealing outlets, and detaining violators. Equipment from these unauthorised operations, including fuel dispensers, was confiscated. The department also took firm action against illegal LPG gas refilling units, enforcing relevant safety regulations.
Civil Defence Officer Bhutta issued a clear warning to non-compliant businesses, urging them to implement fire safety measures and cease illegal operations or face legal consequences.
To further raise public awareness, the department organised seminars, public walks, and workshops in educational institutions. Pamphlets and informative literature were distributed to promote fire prevention and emergency preparedness among citizens.
Bhutta concluded that a comprehensive action plan has been finalised for the upcoming year, with an enhanced focus on making fire safety training and civil defence awareness mandatory for all segments of society.
