RAWALPINDI, Jun 02 (APP):The City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi issued 3,635 challan tickets in one day on Sunday for traffic violations across the district, collecting over Rs 3.352 million fine from violators.
Chief Traffic Officer Beenish Fatima told APP on Monday that 909 motorcyclists were challaned for not wearing helmets while 533 drivers were given challan tickets for not having driving licenses and 117 did not have documents with them.
A total fine of Rs 3,352,500 was imposed on the violators, she added.
The CTO, however, made it clear that the purpose of issuing challans to citizens was to improve the traffic system and inculcate the habit of following traffic laws in them.
She said challans and fines were issued for minor traffic violations, but in case of serious ones, vehicles and motorcycles were impounded in police stations.
She said in collaboration with the district administration, the CTP also carried out a crackdown against encroachments and illegal parking on daily basis.
