MULTAN, Jul 10 (APP):Three alleged dacoits were arrested after they were injured in two separate encounters between teams of Crime Control Department (CCD) and alleged criminals in Khanewal district; however, three others managed to escape, a CCD spokesman said on Thursday.
The spokesman said that a CCD team was on patrolling duty at Adda Meher Shah when they received information through 15 emergency call that some dacoits were looting people at Chak 94 Pul. As soon as the CCD team reached there, the criminals opened fire at the police. Police also returned fire in self defence. When firing stopped, the CCD officials found two criminals injured and took them in custody. They were identified as Zafar Iqbal, resident of Tibba Sultanpur and Muhammad Ismaeel, resident of Pir Colony Multan. Another accused, however, escaped taking advantage of the darkness. Two 30-bore pistols were recovered.
Another firing encounter between a CCD team and criminals took place at 5-Marla Scheme near Koday Wala on Kabirwala Road. Upon receiving the information about three criminals looting people, the CCD team sped their vehicle from Grace Mills to the site where criminals opened fire at police. Police also returned the fire leaving one of the accused injured and he was arrested subsequently. Two others, however, escaped, the CCD spokesman said. The dacoit was identified as Babar alias Goonga, resident of Tulamba and a 30-bore pistol was found near him.
Upon checking the record, those in police custody were found to be involved in robbery, burglary, theft, dacoity and vehicle snatching cases, the spokesman said.
