LAHORE, Jul 08 (APP):Provincial Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, distributed green tractors to 26 winning farmers through a balloting ceremony under the Punjab chief minister’s flagship programme, held in Okara on Tuesday.
Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Mian Muhammad Munir, Additional Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ibrahim Arbab, PML-N leader Rao Muhammad Ajmal, Director Agriculture Extension Shahbaz Akhtar, agriculture officers and farmers were present.
Director Agriculture Extension Sahiwal Shahbaz Akhtar gave a detailed briefing to farmers and cultivators about the farmer-friendly policies of the agriculture department.
On this occasion, the minister said that the chief minister Punjab had fulfilled another promise to the farmers and cultivators. Free tractors were being distributed to farmers across Punjab in a transparent manner through e-balloting, he added.
The minister highlighted that the current government had allocated a record Rs 123 billion in the budget, increasing the budget allocated for the agriculture sector from Rs 20 billion in the past. For the first time in history, green tractors were distributed to 10,000 farmers at a subsidy of Rs1 million. Interest-free loans of Rs 75 billion were given to farmers through Kisan Cards, added Kirmani.
MPA Mian Muhammad Munir said that the government was aware of the difficulties faced by farmers due to not purchasing wheat. Through other revolutionary programmes, vigorous measures are being taken to compensate for the losses suffered by farmers and cultivators, he added.
