LAHORE, Nov 20 (APP):Punjab Police registered 23 cases and imposed Rs 1.354 million in fines during the last 24 hours as part of an intensified crackdown to curb smog, control air pollution, and protect the environment.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, a robust anti-smog crackdown continues across multiple districts, including Lahore, with several violators apprehended.
The spokesperson said fines amounting to Rs 1.354 million were imposed on 556 individuals, while warnings were issued to 46 others. Over the past 24 hours, authorities recorded two incidents of crop residue burning, 336 violations involving smoke-emitting vehicles, four industrial violations, and six brick-kiln related violations.
Providing an overview of the year’s enforcement actions, the spokesperson stated that 2,749 cases have been registered so far across Lahore and other districts, with 2,422 violators arrested. Fines exceeding Rs 225.7 million were imposed on 94,695 individuals, while warnings were issued to 13,411 people. This year, 1,762 cases of crop residue burning, 57,310 violations involving smoke-emitting vehicles, 1,489 industrial violations, and 2,158 brick-kiln violations were reported.
Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has directed officers to further accelerate the anti-smog crackdown across highways, industrial zones, agricultural areas, and other sensitive locations. He emphasised strict, immediate action under a zero-tolerance policy against all violators of smog SOPs.
