MUZAFFARGARH, Oct 19 (APP): Punjab Food Authority (PFA) foiled a major attempt to supply adulterated milk in the city, seizing 1,500 litres of milk unfit for consumption and imposing fines exceeding Rs100,000 on four milk suppliers.
PFA Director Operations South-I Shehzad Khan Magsi visited check posts set up under the anti-adulteration milk campaign at entry and exit points of the city.
During checking at Head Panjnad, Alipur, a tanker with substandard milk was confiscated, and a case was registered against the supplier at the police station concerned.
According to PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javed, laboratory tests revealed a lack of natural nutrition and fat content in the seized milk, which was meant for supply to milk shops and hotels in the city.
He said that milk was a complete food, and adulteration in it would not be tolerated under any circumstances. “Check posts have been established across Punjab to test milkmen entering or leaving cities,” he said, adding that anti-adulteration teams were working round the clock to eliminate the mafia involved in food fraud.
