ISLAMABAD, Nov 29 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police arrested 138 suspects and recovered 147 illegal weapons during a month-long crackdown against unlawful arms in the federal capital.
An official told APP on Saturday that 136 FIRs were registered during the drive, launched to curb the possession and circulation of illegal weapons. He said the recovered arms included 114 pistols, 10 Kalashnikovs, 5 rifles, 5 guns, and 13 daggers, along with a substantial quantity of ammunition.
He said multiple targeted operations were conducted across different areas of Islamabad under the supervision of SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza, while zonal SPs monitored the campaign in their respective jurisdictions.
He added that ladies police and CTD teams also took part in the operations. Several suspects involved in arms smuggling networks were traced, and special police teams are continuing operations against illegal weapon dealers.
DIG Islamabad Muhammad Jawad Tariq said the police are adopting a zero-tolerance policy against illegal weapons, adding that Islamabad Police is working round the clock to ensure the safety and security of citizens.
He urged citizens to register their licensed weapons at their respective police stations and avoid keeping unverified or unregistered arms.
The official said the campaign is being carried out in line with the directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, who ordered district-wide operations to eliminate illegal arms and strengthen public safety.
