14 cases registered, Rs10m fine imposed during anti-smog crackdown

LAHORE, Oct 28 (APP):Punjab Police have ramped up efforts in the ongoing battle against smog-causing activities and environmental violations, registering 14 cases and imposing fines totaling Rs10 million in the past 24 hours. A Punjab Police spokesperson reported that violations included crop residue burning, smoke-emitting vehicles, industrial emissions, and pollution from brick kilns.
Since the beginning of the year, 1,642 cases have been filed across the province, leading to the arrest of 1,571 offenders and the imposition of fines exceeding Rs150 million on 60,275 violators. Additionally, 15,806 individuals have been issued warnings.
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has instructed field officers to accelerate the anti-smog operations, with a strict focus on enforcement of SOPs. He emphasized zero tolerance, particularly in highways, industrial zones, and agricultural areas, to mitigate the impact of smog and pollution on public health and the environment.
