1125 electricity thieves caught in 12 days, Rs.134.9m fine imposed

FAISALABAD, Sep 18 (APP):The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has caught 1125 electricity thieves during 12 days of anti-power-theft drive in the region.
Spokesman Tahir Sheikh said here on Monday that anti-theft drive was in full swing across the FESCO region and the special teams detected pilferage of electricity at 1125 points during last 12 days. Hence, the cases were got registered against 885 thieves.
The company also removed electricity supply meters of all power pilferers in addition to imposing a total fine of Rs.134.9 million under detection units of 3.2 million. As many as 71 power pilferers were sent behind bars in addition to recovering Rs. 25.9 million so far from them, he added.
Giving more details, the spokesman said that during house-to-house checking, the FESCO teams detected electricity theft at 418 points in Faisalabad district and imposed a fine of Rs. 52.3 million on them under the head of 1.25 million detection units.
In Bhakkar district, the FESCO teams caught 113 electricity thieves and imposed a fine of Rs.14.2 million under 300,000 detection units.
Similarly, 125 cases of electricity theft were detected in Chiniot district and the company handed down the power pilferers with a fine of Rs.9.446 million under 317,000 detection units. He said that 114 electricity thieves were caught from Jhang district and they were imposed a fine of Rs. 16.6 million under 521,000 detection units.
In Khushab district, 36 consumers were found involved in electricity theft and they were handed down with a fine of Rs.4.1 million for 82,000 detection units. The FESCO teams also caught 100 power pilferers from Mianwali and they were fined with Rs. 8 million for 186,000 detection units.
In Sargodha district, 134 cases of electricity theft were detected. Hence, a fine of Rs.16 million was imposed on the electricity thieves under 324,000 detection units.
The FESCO teams also caught 74 electricity thieves from Toba Tek Singh district. Therefore, the company imposed a fine of Rs.8 million for 212,000 detection units, spokesman added.
Responding to a question, he said that the anti-theft teams detected power pilferage at 111 sites during past 24 hours and imposed total fine of Rs.11 million on the accused under 256,000 detection units besides detaching all electricity supply connections of the thieves.
