10,137 proclaimed offenders arrested, 357 gangs busted

FAISALABAD, Nov 04 (APP): The police claimed to have achieved a remarkable reduction in crime rate across the region during the current year by arresting 10,137 proclaimed offenders and busting out 357 criminal gangs.
Dr Rizwan Bhatti, spokesman for Regional Police Officer (RPO), said here on Tuesday that on special directives of RPO Zeeshan Asghar, the police carried out extensive operations against criminal networks, drug dealers and illegal arms holders throughout the region.
During the year, 357 gangs comprising 929 members were apprehended, leading to the successful resolution of 3,365 pending cases while the overall crime rate declined by 31 per cent compared to last year, he added.
He revealed that during these operations, the police recovered 93 vehicles, 1,740 motorcycles, 180 tola gold ornaments, 500 mobile phones, 519 stolen cattle and cash worth Rs.3.2 billion from the possession of arrested suspects, he added.
He said that in the ongoing crackdown on narcotics, 5,897 cases were registered against drug dealers which resulted in the arrest of 6,110 drug pushers.
The police seized 3,000 kilograms Chars, 105 kg ice (crystal meth), 522 kg Heroin, 282 kg Opium and 90,827 liters Liquor and took these items into official custody.
In a separate campaign against illegal weapons, the police recovered 1,440 pistols, 27 revolvers, 325 guns, 118 Kalashnikovs, 309 rifles and 16,835 rounds of ammunition, with formal cases registered against the offenders.
Dr. Rizwan Bhatti said that total 10,137 proclaimed offenders were arrested across the region including 3,004 from Category-A and 7,133 from Category-B.
