Renowned broadcaster Yasmin Tahir passes away

LAHORE, Jul 19 (APP):Yasmin Tahir, a renowned broadcaster of Radio Pakistan, passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 88 after a brief illness.
She was the educated face of a literary family, the star of distinction and the voice of millions of hearts, who was brought up in the courtyard of literature. Yasmin Tahir had been undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Lahore for the past few days.
Yasmin Tahir was born in Lahore in 1937. She belonged to a literary family that has been the cornerstone of Urdu culture in the subcontinent. Her father, Imtiaz Ali Taj, is considered the founder of Urdu drama, whose famous play “Anarkali” still holds a prominent place in classical literature. Her mother, Hijaib Imtiaz Ali, was not only a writer but also had the honor of being the first Muslim woman pilot in the subcontinent.
In 1960, Yasmin Tahir married film, television, stage and theatre actor Naeem Tahir.
Yasmin Tahir started her broadcasting career with Radio Pakistan in 1958. Her voice had a softness, truth, and sincerity that touched the heart directly.
From popular programs like Subh Bakhir Pakistan made conversations with soldiers on the front lines, her style of presentation gave new dimensions to the world of radio.
Especially during wars, the courage and heartfelt harmony in her voice touched the heart of every soldier.
Yasmin Tahir proved herself not only as a voice actor but also as a conscious social figure. She was always at the forefront on issues like youth guidance, women’s rights, and national unity.
She also acted in several Urdu dramas and played many memorable roles in radio theater.
Yasmin Tahir was honored with several awards for her services, the most prominent of which is the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (2015), which was bestowed upon her by the government of Pakistan. For her, this honor is not just a certificate but an acknowledgement that her voice has touched the soul of the nation.
