RAWALPINDI, Sep 05 (APP):Emerging female artists are playing a vital role in expanding Pakistan’s cultural footprint and shaping its visual arts landscape, former culture minister and prominent artist Jamal Shah.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of Fatima Jinnah Women University’s (FJWU) annual degree show, titled “Stories from the Studios,” Jamal Shah praised the graduating cohort for addressing complex social and cultural themes through bold technique and original visual storytelling.
According to the details, the multidisciplinary showcase, organized by the university’s Department of Fine Arts, features thesis projects across painting, printmaking, miniature painting, communication design, textiles, and fashion design.
FJWU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza (TI), who jointly opened the exhibition as guest of honor, commended the graduates’ technical displays and commended the institution’s commitment to nurturing female creative leadership.
During the event, Fine Arts Department Chairperson Dr. Suriyya Chaudhary announced ongoing discussions with university leadership to explore establishing a dedicated Heritage Museum on campus to preserve regional crafts and student archives.
Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Azra Yasmin also urged graduating students to leverage their artistic training into sustainable entrepreneurial ventures, highlighting the commercial potential of Pakistan’s creative industries.
Besides the massive students presence, the opening ceremony was attended by Registrar Ms. Naseem Akhtar, department heads and faculty members.
