Arts Council Karachi hosts staging of classical drama “Naql-e-Makani”

KARACHI, Jul 20 (APP): The School of Visual & Performing Arts (SOVAPA) at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi presented the fifth production of its Alumni Series, staging the acclaimed classical play “Naql-e-Makani” at Studio II.

Written by the legendary fiction writer Rajinder Singh Bedi, the timeless Urdu drama received an enthusiastic response from the audience, who applauded its compelling narrative and the cast’s exceptional performances.

The 60-minute production was directed by Farhan Ahsan, with Aayan Aamir serving as the Assistant Director. The lead roles were portrayed by Alaiza Javed as Azra and Adil Shakir as Nafees. The supporting cast featured Hamza Ranjha as Saiyaan Sharabi, Sheriyar Anwar as Banwari Lal, Bharat Kumar as Mirza Shaukat, Hassan Malik as the Policeman, Aayan Aamir as the Constable, and Daniyal Naeem as Shiv Bharat.

Each performer delivered a powerful portrayal, contributing to the production’s emotional depth and artistic excellence. Set in Delhi in 1945, “Naql-e-Makani” follows the story of a middle-class family that finally secures a home after years of struggle. However, their sense of security quickly unravels upon discovering that the house was previously occupied by a woman of ill repute—a fact confirmed by a local paan vendor.

The unexpected arrival of an intoxicated stranger further intensifies their fears, ultimately compelling them to abandon their new home out of concern for social stigma, rumours, and public perception.
