UNHCR holds painting competition for Afghan and Pakistani youth

PESHAWAR, Jan 22 (APP):The UN Refugee Agency held a painting competition for Afghan and Pakistani artists in an event held in the University of Peshawar on Tuesday. The painting competition themed “Home away from home – 40 years of Afghan refugees in Pakistan” was organized in collaboration with Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees KP and the Department of Art and Design, University of Peshawar.
Around 40 Afghan and Pakistani artists participated in the competition.
For 2019, in close coordination with the government of Pakistan, UNHCR will continue taking a number of important initiatives for the development of Afghan refugee youth.
“We consider the younger generation as the flag bearers of tomorrow and we hope to continue providing them with opportunities to highlight their skills in art and other faculties.” Mr. Dinesh Shrestha, the head of office of UNHCR Peshawar stated on the occasion.
Winners of the competition were awarded cash prizes and certificates, distributed jointly by Abbas Khan, Commissioner for Afghan Refugees, Mr. Iain Hall, UNHCR Deputy Country Representative, and Dr. Muhammad Sher Ali Khan, Chairman of Department of Art and Design of the University.
