Scholarly session highlights Punjabi folk poetry “Bollian”

ISLAMABAD, Apr 04 (APP):Scholars and culture experts at a Muzakra session on Punjabi folk poetry “Bollian” highlighted various aspects of unique cultural heritage of the country at the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, Lok Virsa here Thursday.

The scholarly discussion after sketching an eye bird view of the Punjabi folk poetry, focused on the sub-genre of the folk poetry “Bollian”. Boli is such a smart and witty version of folk poetry which consists of only two verses as complete subject is covered just in a couplet.

Dr. Muhammad Younus Amin was the key speaker during the session. Besides having a PhD in Law, he is a teacher, poet, researcher and a social activist and has 13 published and 19 unpublished books to his credit.

Among them 12 are about poetry in Urdu and Punjabi languages.

The Muzakra fortnightly series is an interactive session in which audience can engage with the guest speakers during the question and answer session. It is regular part of Lok Virsa’s activities to preserve and promote the various forms of heritage in the country and highlight the magnificent cultural legacy of Pakistan.

Lok Virsa with its mandate is focusing on the promotion of folk heritage of Pakistan in a way that is relevant to people of all ages and backgrounds and to provide more meaning, depth and rootedness in life.

The promotion of folk heritage will also create more space for expressing diversity within the culture, asserting cultural autonomy and dignity, the organizers said.
