ISLAMABAD, Oct 3 (APP):Pakistani and Japanese musicians on Wednesday evening enthralled the audience here at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA).
The Embassy of Japan in collaboration with Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) and Pakistan-Japan Friendship Forum organized an enchanting performance of traditional Japanese instrumental music Koto and Shamisen by the visiting Japanese artists Ms. Sumie Kaneko here at PNCA.
The event was attended by Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Takash Kurai, Director General PNCA Jamal Shah and a large number of people from different walks of life.
Ambassador Takash Kurai speaking on the occasion said the Japanese embassy had long been organizing different cultural events in Pakistan and wished to further promote the cultural exchange and friendship between Japan and Pakistan by arranging such events in future also.
He thanked Ms. Kaneko for traveling to Pakistan for the fourth time and showcasing her talent of playing this unique Japanese music that was evocative of traditional Japan.
Ambassador Kurai hoped that this show would provide a great opportunity to Pakistani people to experience the fascinating diversity of Japanese music as tonight’s performer Ms. Sumie Kaneko was well-known for her unique style, which was a blend of traditional and contemporary Japanese music.
He also thanked the Pakistani musicians who collaborated with the Japanese artiste Ms. Kaneko, adding events like this contribute towards the promotion of already existing friendly relations between the two countries.
Director General PNCA Jamal Shah also spoke on the occasion and said it was always pleasure working with Japan Embassy for the promotion of art and culture.
Koto is a traditional Japanese stringed musical instrument, which is similar to the Pakistani Santoor or Swarmandal whereas Shamisen is a three stringed instrument similar to Banjo.
