Lok Virsa to pay tribute to Ahmed Faraz on July 15

ISLAMABAD, Jul 13 (APP): National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage Lok Virsa would pay tribute to legend poet Ahmad Faraz on July 15 at Lok Virsa Media Center.

A large number people from different walks of life including writers, intellectuals, poets and journalists will participate in the ceremony, Executive Director Lok Virsa Dr. Fouzia Saeed told APP.

She said that a rich tribute would be paid to the legend poet and scholar.

She said that Ahmed Faraz bestowed best poetry to Urdu literature, adding that Ahmed Faraz will be remembered forever due to his contribution in poetry. She said Ahmed Faraz knew how to use words in his poetry.

Faraz was his pen name ‘takhallus’, whereas his real name was Syed Ahmed Shah. Born in a village near Kohat in January 14, 1931, Ahmed Faraz was a son of a traditional poet Agha Syed Muhammad Shah Bark Kohati and was considered one of the leading poets of the country.

Ahmed Faraz was acclaimed as one of the best modern Urdu poets of the last century. He was died in Islamabad on August 25, 2008.

He was awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz and after his death Hilal-e-Pakistan by the Government.
