Legendary theater, TV actor ‘Jamil Fakhri’ remembered

ISLAMABAD, Jun 9 (APP):Iconic versatile theater, TV, film and stage actor ‘Jamil Fakhri’ was remembered on his 10th death anniversary on Wednesday to pay him a rich tribute for his lifetime acting services for entertainment industry.

Jamil Fakhri was born in Lahore, Pakistan in 1946. After finishing his basic education, he started working for National Bank of Pakistan. Then he started doing theater at WAPDA Auditorium and Alhamra Arts Council, Lahore and started working with some already established TV actors and directors.

Jamil Fakhri worked with many prominent TV actors of the time including Irfan Khoosat, Khayyam Sarhadi, Firdous Jamal, Masood Akhtar, Kamal Ahmed Rizvi and Nanha, private channels reported.

He also worked with some top TV producers and directors in the 1980s including Yawar Hayat Khan, Rashid Dar (director of the above-mentioned Andhera Ujala), Kamal Ahmed Rizvi and many more.

Beside acting in television dramas, he also acted in more than 50 Pakistani films.
Fakhri gained great popularity through his role as SHO Jaffar Hussain in a TV series Andhera Ujala. With his restrained style of acting and poker faced comedy, he became one of the faces of PTV’s golden age.

Playwright Shahid Nadeem said that Fakhri had beautifully molded himself into a typical old pehlawan living in Lahore in his play Janjal Pura as Dada Pehlawan. He was a versatile actor who revealed acute observations of life, people and situations through his acting, said painter Quddus Mirza.

“He is one of the few actors our country has produced whose eyes and facial expressions told the story,” said theater actress Uzma Hassan.

Fakhri died on June 9, 2011 shortly after his son Ali Ayaz Fakhri was brutally murdered in New York. He was devastated by the death of his son.
