ISLAMABAD, May 25 (APP): An exhibition titled “Where
are we?” organized by the COMSATS Institute of Information
Technology (CIIT) in collaboration with Austria Embassy started here at the former’s Art Gallery.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Austrian Ambassador
Dr Brigita Blaha and Incharge CIIT Islamabad Campus Dr
Raheel Qamar.
Works of 13 artists based on their intrepretation of
national identity was put on display at the exhibition.
Speaking on the occasion, the Austrian Ambassador said,
“We started this project last year when a number of
Pakistani artists performed in Austria.”
Dr Brigitta said an eminent Pakistani artist from Lahore
also organized an exhibition in Austria. She said that with this international art programme Hinterland -originally based in Austria- set up its temporary home in Pakistan.
As part of the Austria-Pakistan Festival, initiated by Renald
Deppe, Hinterland was invited to host Pakistani artists in Vienna.
She said that today’s event was a series of exhibitions to promote inter-cultural understanding.
Dr Brigitta said the first of these exhibition took place in
June 2015 in Tehran before it moved to Austria. “Now, an extended version of the exhibition will be on display in Lahore.”
She said for today’s exhibition 13 artists had been invited to
work on their personal understanding of identity, their personal perception and their historical image of a national identity.
Raheel Qamar also spoke on the occasion. He said it was
essential to understand each other’s culture.
A large number of people visited the exhibition on its first
day. The exhibition will continue till May 28 (Saturday) from 10am to 5pm.
