Annual 3-day urs of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar begins

ISLAMABAD, Apr 24 (APP):Three-day celebrations in connection with the 767th annual Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar begins in Sehwan Sharif today (Wednesday).

According to district administration Jamshoro, thousands of devotees from all around the country have gathered in Sehwan Sharif to attend three-day Urs celebrations of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.

The visitors came prepared to stay in the city throughout the urs, with few in rented houses from locals while others carry tents with them for their sojourn.

Walk through gates and CCTV cameras have been installed for the safety of the devotees while heavy contingent of police would be deployed to maintain law and order situation during Urs celebrations, administration official said while talking to private news channel.

Strict security arrangements have been made in this regard, they said adding, at least 5000 police personnel and 1000 Rangers officials have been deployed on duty.

Lungar and Sabeels are easily accessible all around the shrine.

Pilgrims come to pay their respects to the Qalandar, a poet and one of the most important Sufi saints in Pakistan’s history. The loving music and poetry of Sufis propelled Islam throughout South Asia hundreds of years ago, and Lal Shahbaz is one of the most venerated of all.

He welcomed those from all religions, castes, and creeds, and the tradition continues. Muslims are not the only ones coming to see Lal Shahbaz’s tomb; Hindus also embark on this Sufi yatra, and the shrine is open to anyone of any faith.
