AIOU holds 'Pothohar Literary Festival'

ISLAMABAD, Apr 17 (APP):A day-long Pothohar Literary Festival held here at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU).

Besides students and faculty members of AIOU and the local education institutions eminent literary figures from across the country attended the event.

Speakers highlighted various aspects and significance of language and literature.

AIOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Zia-Ul-Qayyum while addressing the inaugural session said that the AIOU would initiate dialogue on the socio-economic issues through such events to be organized on regular basis at the main campus and 49 regional offices.

He said that they would mobilize their TV and radio network for projecting the discussions and debates, which is direly needed to develop public consensus on national issues.

The role of academia is highly important for this purpose, he added.
Other speakers said that festival was part of the university’s consistent efforts to promote healthy activities among the students.
They said that it was also aimed at providing a platform to students to understand the richness of their national heritage and traditions.

They said the festival’s activities were focused on promotion of literature and language, which also helped involve students in healthy activities.

The event was organized by the University’s Urdu Department. Dean Social Science Dr Samina Awan and the Chairman of the Urdu Department Dr Abdul Aziz Sehr also spoke on the occasion and highlighted various features of the festival.

The prominent writers and scholars who attended the event are: I A Rehman, Ghazi Salahuddin, Prof Fateha Muhammad Malik, Iftikhar Arif, Farooq Qaiser, Dr Sheeba Alam, Ayaz Ahmed, Hasan Miraz, Hameed Shahid, Asghar Nadeem Syed, Adeel Hashmi and Hassan Miraj.
