Children Summer Camp concludes at Lok Virsa

Two day Kalash language exhibition concludes

ISLAMABAD, Aug 17 (APP): National Institute of Folk and
Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) Wednesday organized a concluding ceremony of a month long Summer Camp for Children to provide them orientation about Pashto and Sindhi Languages and awarded certificates to participants.

The objective of the camp was to provide an orientation to
children (age 6 12 years) about the language, poetry, crafts, music and festivals of Sindh and KPK. The camp was organised for creating ownership among children regarding Pakistan’s languages and cultural heritage.

A colourful concluding ceremony was held at Lok Virsa Heritage
Museum was graced by MNA Ms. Shaista Pervez as chief guest.
A number of colourful folk musical performances and cultural diversity shows were presented on the occasion by students of Islamabad Model School for Girls (IMSG), G 6/1 3.

MNA Shaista Pervez commended the efforts of Lok Virsa,
especially its Executive Director Dr. Fouzia Saeed for infusing new spirit in the younger generation about unity in diversity and cultural heritage of Pakistan.

Dr. Fouzia Saeed, Executive Director, Lok Virsa informed participants that it was a 20 day activity where the children were taught about the language (alphabets), culture, arts, crafts, music,
festivals, sports, etc. in different periods and in an interactive
and enjoyable manner. The programme included 15 day classes, a 2 day interactive workshop and 3 day educational visits to the reputed
museums, i.e. Heritage Museum, Pakistan Monument Museum and Pakistan Museum of Natural History.

“A total twenty five children took part in the summer camp which is an evident that parents welcomed the initiative launched by Lok Virsa and
preferred to teach their children about these regional
languages,” she said.

She also apprised that apart from informal learning of languages, the children were also encouraged to participate in practical activities like folk singing, music, craft making, painting, etc. Folk artists, artisans, story tellers and craft experts also interacted and shared their experiences with them during the summer camp.
