Youth to play key role in strengthening economy: FCCI president
FAISALABAD, Sep 14 (APP):President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) Farooq Yousaf Sheikh said
sixty five percent youth will play a key role in strengthening and stabilizing Pakistan’s economy by
exploiting its skills and expertise in information technology (IT) while FCCI trying its optimum best
to facilitate them by organizing free awareness sessions.
Addressing the participants of a free awareness session on e-commerce, he said that FCCI is the third-largest and premier chamber of the country, with 22,000 members affiliated with 128 trades.
He said that the mandate of Faisalabad Chamber is to resolve the problems faced by its members.
“We played our pivotal role in the preparation of the federal budget by formulating budget recommendations”, he said and added that a comprehensive report for the development of e-commerce was also prepared and forwarded to the government.
He said that originally, the chamber was mandated to focus on the problems faced by the business community but now it has emerged as the voice of the entire city’s population of around 10 million.
He said that, due to the efforts of FCCI, direct international flights from Faisalabad had been launched, while the Chamber also deserved credit for initiating Hajj flights from the city.
He said the Metro Bus project was under completion due to the Chamber’s efforts, while 80 percent of the city’s roads had also been renovated and improved.
He further said that work had started on expanding the Pindi Bhattian–Faisalabad Motorway from four to six lanes due to the efforts and advocacy of the chamber.
He said that a ramp had also been provided on Canal Road to facilitate direct access to the Faisalabad Chamber.
FCCI President said that Faisalabad Chamber would become the first chamber in the country to have an exclusive branch of EXIM Bank, which would become operational from Thursday.
He said that passport renewal services would also start at the Faisalabad Chamber from September 15, 2026, while the facility for issuance of new passports would also be launched there soon.
He said that Pakistan possessed immense potential to increase its IT exports, and the Chamber was providing free training and awareness facilities to the young entrepreneurs in this regard.
Referring to the “Made in Faisalabad Expo”, he said free stalls worth Rs4.5 million had been provided to universities, young entrepreneurs and students of National Incubation Centers.
He said the purpose of the present awareness session was also to provide free and necessary facilities to e-commerce entrepreneurs and young startups.
He said that Pakistan was currently facing a trade deficit of around Rs40 billion while the IT startups could help overcome it through their IT skills in addition to contributing towards the stability of the national economy.
During awareness session, Muhammad Aslam of Empowerers, Asim Bhai of Manchester, Qasim Sana Ramey, Usman Chughtai and Shahid Joyia briefed the participants about various aspects of e-commerce.
