Steps afoot to resolve poultry sector problems: Finance Minister

LAHORE, Oct 10 (APP):Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb said on Saturday that effective steps are being taken at local level o resolve the problems faced by poultry sector.

Addressing the International Poultry Expo (IPEX) 2026 ceremony here at Expo Center, he added that organizing the poultry expo will improve business and investor confidence.

“Pakistan is the 11th largest country in the world in terms of poultry production. Steps are being taken at the local level to solve the problems faced by the poultry sector,,” he assured.

The Finance Minister said that more than 200 stalls have been set up in the expo, in which the business community is showing keen interest. He said that Pakistan is the 11th largest country in the world in terms of poultry production and 1.5 million families are associated with this sector. The production of the poultry sector includes 2.5 billion kilograms of meat and more than 28 million eggs.

The Finance Minister said that the poultry sector is playing an important role in providing employment in rural areas as well as ensuring the availability of protein to the population across the country.

Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb said that the share of poultry meat in meat exports to the Central and South Asian region is low and the volume of national poultry exports does not exceed USD 04 million. He said that the poultry sector is playing an important role in meeting the food needs of the country, the poultry industry is important in Pakistan’s economy and creating employment opportunities.

The Federal Finance Minister said that investment in the poultry sector can promote economic activities, asserting that strengthening the livestock and poultry sectors is necessary for the development of the agricultural economy. Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb said that use of modern technologies in the poultry industry can ensure a significant increase in production. He said that the role of the private sector is important for the development of the poultry sector.

He further said that the supply of chicken meat and eggs is indispensable for food security. Providing a conducive environment for the promotion of the poultry industry and its related businesses is of fundamental importance, he said and mentioned that the government is paying special attention to promoting development and investment in various sectors of the economy and measures are being ensured at the local level to resolve the problems of the poultry industry.
