SMEDA offers 70pc matching grant for int’l certification of SMEs

LAHORE, Feb 24 (APP):Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) is offering 70 percent matching grant under the SME Certification & International Accreditation Grant Programme.
 According to the grant managers here Tuesday, the programme has gained traction as entrepreneurs from several parts of the country have shown interest in obtaining globally recognized certifications to enhance their competitiveness and export potential.
Having 70 percent of the cost from grant programme the SMEs will have to bear 30 percent cost by themselves to cover the certification cost up to Rs 800,000 and related consultancy cost up to Rs 200,000 under the project.
The grant programme has been launched under the Prime Minister’s vision for enhancing exportability of the SMEs in world market. The programme is focused to help SMEs get key international certifications by reducing the financial and technical barriers associated with compliance. The initiative is part of the Ministry of Industries and Production’s strategy to strengthen small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by enabling them to formalize, accessing the markets for enhancing export capabilities, as per advice of the PM.
Officials say SMEDA, through this highly significant project, offers matching grants and advisory support to entrepreneurs to enable them to meet global standards related to quality, safety, environmental management and operational systems. The response from entrepreneurs has been quite encouraging, they say, adding that the Authority aims to support more than 100 SMEs in the current fiscal year.
According to officials, several SMEs expressed their willingness to avail themselves of the certification grant at the recent ‘Made in Pakistan – SME Cluster Showcase Expo 2026.’ With increasing number of applications and approvals already underway, they say, the programme is expected to be a key instrument in the government’s drive to formalize the SME sector, boost exports and build a more competitive and resilient economy.
Officials assure that the selection process for the certification is merit-based and transparent, with applications processed on a first-come, first-served basis while ensuring compliance with eligibility requirements. The initiative demonstrates the government’s sincere commitment to making SMEs transition from informal operations to structured, compliant and globally competitive businesses, they say.
SMEDA makes sure special emphasis is placed on encouraging participation from start-ups, women-led enterprises and businesses located in underserved areas. With a simplified application process, it is actively guiding applicants through awareness sessions, media engagement and digital campaign highlighting certification requirements and procedures, say officials.
Entrepreneurs interested in the programme can apply through the SMEDA website (www.smeda.org) or the SME Registration Portal (https://smerp.smeda.org). Registration is free and marks an important step toward formalization, improved governance and sustainable business expansion.
