Seed department ensuring enforcement of Seed Act in letter and spirit

ISLAMABAD, May 03 (APP):The teams of Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department are working at full throttle for the purpose of enforcing the seed Act in letter and spirit.

The minister for National Food Security and Research Sahibzada Mehboob Sultan has issued clear directions that sale of only certified seeds should be ensured and no one should be spared selling unapproved seeds.

A statement issued by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research said on Friday that the ministry was doing great service in ensuring the provision of healthy seed to the farmers especially when the cotton cultivation was around the corner.

These teams inspect the seed markets and collect samples and those found guilty of selling uncertified or unapproved seed are taken into custody and challans are served to such dealers/sellers.

The Minister directed that these reports should be sent to the Ministry of Food Security and Research and Seed Act. Implementation must be ensured.

Similarly In order to streamline and monitor the day to day regulatory working of Department of Plant Protection (DPP) in areas of export and import of plant and plant material and agricultural pesticides and pest free agro commodities.

The Ministry of National Food Security besides other measures resorted to 24/7 monitoring of the services of DPP and FSC&RD.
A special social media group is formulated for the purpose where daily activities of DPP (issuance of import permit, release order and issuance of SPS certificate) and FSC&RD are uploaded for the information of the Minister and Secretary NFS&R.

The purpose for the exercise is to monitor the activities on daily basis, prevent delay and expedite the release of consignments and enhance professionalism in both the departments.
