FAISALABAD, Oct 23 (APP):Renowned Islamic scholar and distinguished jurist Justice (retired) Nazir Ahmad Ghazi has stressed the need for open and independent economic discourse and said that it is imperative to ensure Pakistan’s sustainable development.
During his visit to Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), he lauded vital role of the business community in national progress.
He congratulated FCCI President Farooq Yousaf Sheikh on his election and called upon the business community to present practical recommendations for achieving a self-reliant national economy.
He offered to organize a dedicated program on economic independence under the theme “Can We Survive Without the International Monetary Fund?” or “Can We Free Ourselves from the IMF?”
He also expressed his readiness to engage in an in-depth dialogue with the chamber once preparations are complete.
He hailed the election of Farooq Yousaf Sheikh as president of the chamber as a positive development for the local business community and expressed confidence in his leadership to guide traders and industrialists effectively.
FCCI President Farooq Yousaf Sheikh, in his remarks, thanked Justice (Retired) Ghazi for his visit and appreciation. He said that Pakistan possessed all fundamental ingredients for economic growth, yet the country’s progress had fallen short of expectations.
He welcomed the idea of holding a special program on economic independence and said that such platform would help evaluate achievements of the business community and set future goals for transforming Pakistan into an “Asian Tiger”.
FCCI President said that while the nation’s economic indicators had shown improvement in recent years, the last few months had seen a slowdown.
He stressed the need to ensure direct involvement of the business community in policy formulation and said that those nations which utilized IMF assistance for national objectives achieved better economic stability.
“We must rise above personal interests and prioritize national goals”, he said, expressing optimism that the country’s economic situation is now moving toward gradual improvement.
Later, FCCI President Farooq Yousaf Sheikh also presented chamber’s memento to Justice (Retired) Nazir Ahmad Ghazi while Senior Vice President FCCI Naveed Akram Sheikh, Dr. Imtiaz, Lion Abdul Rahman and Riffat Qadri were also present on the occasion.
