SBP urges public to make digital payments at Lahore cattle markets, ahead of Eid

LAHORE, May 24 (APP): State Bank of Pakistan-Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC) Lahore, in collaboration with the Punjab Cattle Market Management and Development Company (PCMMDC), has carried out a field engagement at Shahpur Kanjran Cattle Market, Lahore as part of the nationwide “Go Cashless” campaign for Eid-ul-Azha 2026.
The activity focused on promoting secure, convenient, and efficient digital payment solutions in livestock markets ahead of the festive season. Chief Manager SBP BSC Lahore, Ansar Iftikhar Butt led the SBP BSC team along with senior officials from participating commercial banks and representatives of PCMMDC.
The engagement included interactions with livestock traders (beoparis), buyers, fodder sellers, food stall operators, transporters, and other market participants to encourage adoption of digital payment channels.
Stakeholders were sensitized on the use of Raast-enabled QR code payments, mobile banking applications, and branchless banking wallets as safe and efficient alternatives to cash-based transactions.
The initiative emphasized SBP’s broader objective of advancing digital financial inclusion and reducing reliance on cash in high-volume seasonal markets.
To facilitate adoption, bank teams established on-site facilitation desks and awareness camps within the market premises, enabling account opening, QR code onboarding, and activation of digital payment services for vendors and traders.
