SBP launches inaugural Research Agenda 2026-29 to support economic growth, stability

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Thursday, launched its inaugural Research Agenda for 2026-2029, designed to generate actionable insights, strengthen policy formulation and support Pakistan’s progress towards price stability and sustainable inclusive growth. 

KARACHI, Jun 11 (APP): The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Thursday, launched its inaugural Research Agenda for 2026-2029, designed to generate actionable insights, strengthen policy formulation and support Pakistan’s progress towards price stability and sustainable inclusive growth.
The central bank, in a statement issued here, termed the Research Agenda as a reflection of SBP’s research priorities in an evolving global and domestic economic landscape, characterized by rapid technological advancements, recurring supply shocks, climate change, and persistent structural challenges.
In line with SBP’s statutory objectives and the SBP Vision 2028, the Agenda provides a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen the analytical underpinnings of the central bank’s policy formulation and regulatory design, it added.
The Research Agenda is organized around three strategic broad themes; Inflation dynamics and Monetary Policy with focus on inflation behavior, expectations and policy transmission; Financial Sector Deepening, Soundness and Efficiency covering financial inclusion, digital finance and financial stability; and Structural Transformation and Economic Development that addresses productivity, external competitiveness, labor markets, climate related risks and long term growth prospects.
Around these broader themes, the agenda for the next three years is aimed at addressing existing research gaps and facilitating informed macroeconomic policymaking.
Governor SBP Jameel Ahmad, in a video message, outlined the salient features of the agenda saying that the launch of the agenda marks an important milestone in SBP’s commitment to evidence based policy making, collaboration with external stakeholders and forward looking economic analysis.
The Research Agenda also highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing in addressing emerging economic and financial sector challenges.
As part of undertaking research outlined in the Agenda, SBP aims to actively engage and collaborate with academics, policy researchers, government bodies, and other external stakeholders at both individual and institutional levels to foster innovative ideas and evidence based solutions.
