ISLAMABAD, Jun 26 (APP):Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce Rana Ihsaan Afzal on Thursday assured full support for equipping the National Tariff Commission (NTC) with modern tools, emphasizing the need for digitization to improve efficiency and expedite processes.
During his visit to the NTC, the Coordinator reviewed the Commission’s mandate, operational functions, and institutional capacity.
He lauded the Commission’s efforts and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the institution, said a news release.
“The NTC must evolve into a data-driven, tech-enabled institution to effectively safeguard Pakistan’s economic interests in today’s dynamic global trade environment,” the coordinator said.
Chairman NTC and senior officials briefed the coordinator on the Commission’s core responsibilities, which include advising the government on tariff matters and implementing trade remedy laws such as anti-dumping duties, countervailing duties, and safeguard measures.
The role of NTC in protecting domestic industries from unfair international trade practices was emphasized as a critical component of Pakistan’s trade policy.
The visit also served as a platform for open dialogue, where NTC officials shared institutional challenges and discussed ways to enhance performance.
This engagement underscores the government’s resolve to foster a more competitive trade environment for Pakistani exporters and provide robust protections to local industries against predatory trade practices.
