PSX sheds 243 points to close at 170,830 points

ISLAMABAD, Dec 24 (APP): The benchmark KSE-100 Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday closed bearish, losing 243.51 points, a negative change of 0.14 percent, to settle at 170,830.22 points compared to 171,073.73 points on the previous trading day, according to PSX data.
During the session, the ready market witnessed a trading volume of 811.558 million shares with a traded value of Rs 29.795 billion, against 650.136 million shares valuing Rs 28.257 billion in the previous session. Market capitalization declined to Rs 19.361 trillion from Rs 19.397 trillion a day earlier.
Out of 481 active companies in the ready market, 171 advanced, 264 declined, while 46 remained unchanged.
Pakistan International Bulk Terminal topped the volume chart with 62.126 million shares, followed by Bank of Punjab with 61.349 million shares and PIA Holding Company with 54.392 million shares.
The top gainers included The Thal Industries Corporation Limited, which rose by Rs 64.38 to close at Rs 789.47, and Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited, increasing by Rs 42.00 to settle at Rs 28,992.00.
On the losing side, PIA Holding Company Limited-B declined by Rs 1,836.74 to close at Rs 19,149.59, while Rafhan Maize Products Company Limited fell by Rs 1,168.61 to close at Rs 10,912.76.
In the futures market, turnover stood at 720.406 million shares with a traded value of Rs 37.983 billion, compared to 575.828 million shares worth Rs 36.647 billion in the previous session.
Out of 315 futures-market companies, 93 recorded gains, 217 declined, while five remained unchanged.
Among futures contracts, PIAHCLA-Jan led with 46.048 million shares, followed by KEL-Dec with 36.351 million shares and KEL-Jan with 35.724 million shares.
